What to know
The Center for Language and Speech Processing (CLSP) was founded in 1992. It has more than 60 researchers from four departments, and since 1995 it has held a research workshop every summer that draws scientists from around the world. Source
The university is hiring 80 engineering faculty in AI over five years, and the Laboratory for Computational Sensing and Robotics (LCSR) gained some of the new hires who work where robotics meets AI. Robotics master's students can do their thesis in one of its labs. Source
The Data Science and AI Institute (DSAI) supports AI teaching across the university. For the 2026-27 academic year it lists new courses such as cognitive foundations of AI, human-centered robotics and AI in health care. Source
The online master's in AI at the school for working engineers was built with experts from the university's Applied Physics Laboratory. It has 10 courses, and a shorter certificate is also available. Source
Admission for international students
International applicants to the engineering school's on-campus master's and PhD programs have a dedicated page. If English is not the main language of your country of citizenship, you need a test score or an approved waiver. Documents not in English must be translated by a certified translator. Applications open around August 15, and deadlines depend on the program. Source
